Hourly Home Care in Leeds

Select Choice was founded in Leeds in 2020. We’ve been supporting families across the city ever since, with a team that lives and works locally and knows the difference between a postcode and a neighbourhood.

Our care is delivered and managed by people who know the area, with carers who live nearby and can be with you reliably, professionally and on time. If you’ve been searching for support at home in Leeds, domiciliary care is usually the right starting point.

Areas of Leeds We Cover

Hourly home care across north and west Leeds. Hourly care depends on carers being able to reach you reliably for each visit, so our coverage is more focused than live-in care. If you’re outside the postcodes listed below, please call us — our live-in care service may suit better.

Why Families in Leeds Choose Select Choice

Experienced Management Team

Our service is managed by a friendly team with over 50 years experience in the sector. Our Registered Manager, October Smyth-Parker, will ensure that your support package is meeting your expectations.

Carefully Matched Carers

We match on personality and interests, not just availability. For hourly visits this matters even more than for live-in care — the same one or two familiar faces, week after week, rather than a rota of strangers through the front door.

Rated ‘Good’ by CQC

Select Choice Community Support is registered with the Care Quality Commission and rated Good across all five areas of inspection. Our care, training and management processes are inspected independently, so families using our domiciliary care in Leeds know the standards behind every visit.

Assessments Within 24 Hours

An increase in care needs isn’t always expected. If you call us in the morning, we can usually visit the same week — and often within 24 hours for urgent situations following a hospital discharge or a sudden change at home. We work with you and your family to visit at a time convenient for you.

The Experience of a Family in Leeds

We needed someone to pop in to see Mum for an hour every evening for a period of seven days whilst we were on holiday. It was to make sure Mum had eaten, had her medication and was generally alright. One member of staff initially came out to see Mum and introduce herself to us and was actually one of the carers who visited Mum whilst we were away. Apparently, she had lovely chats with Mum (who is actually a very quiet person). We had already completed a little questionnaire about Mum’s interests which was a very thoughtful gesture and meant that Mum could be engaged in conversations that had meaning for her. The main carer very kindly sent me a text message each evening after she (or another carer) had visited to let us know that Mum was ok. This meant a lot to us as it gave us peace of mind. Would definitely use Select Choice again and cannot recommend it highly enough, especially the main carer, who was professional, very friendly and caring.

What's Included

Select Choice carer with a client at home in Leeds

Our hourly home care in Leeds covers everything you’d expect from a high-quality domiciliary care service: personal care (washing, dressing, continence support), medication prompting and administration, meal preparation, light housework, laundry, shopping, and accompanied trips to appointments or social activities. Many of our clients also value the companionship side — a familiar carer who’ll sit with a cup of tea, share a crossword, or simply be a calm presence in the house.

Domiciliary Care in Leeds — the same service, different name

“Domiciliary care” is the term local authorities and the NHS often use for what most families call home care. At Select Choice we use the terms interchangeably: both describe a trained carer visiting you at home for a scheduled period of support, anywhere from a 30-minute call to several hours a day. If a hospital discharge team, GP or social worker has recommended domiciliary care in Leeds, our hourly home care service is what they’re referring to.

Pricing

Hourly home care in Leeds typically ranges from £29.40 – £36.00 per hour. The exact figure depends on visit length, frequency, and the type of support required — which is why we always provide a written, itemised quote after the free home assessment rather than a headline price.

Common questions about hourly home care in Leeds

What's the minimum visit length for hourly home care in Leeds?
Our minimum visit is 30 minutes. We don't offer 15-minute "flying visits" — they don't allow enough time to do anything properly. Thirty minutes is the floor at which meaningful support is actually possible. However, we usually recommend an hour for all visits. Most clients book longer visits than the minimum once they see the difference it makes.
Can hourly home care visits increase to live-in care over time?
Yes, and it's a common path. Some of our long-term clients in Leeds started with a single visit a day, gradually increased frequency as needs grew, and some will choose to stay at home with a live-in care package with us. Some of our staff provide both services, so depending on the specific situation we can sometimes keep the same carer through the transition — we'd discuss that case by case. Continuity of relationship is important to us.
Does Leeds City Council fund hourly home care through Direct Payments?
Yes — many of our hourly home care clients in Leeds are partially funded by Leeds City Council via the Direct Payments route. Direct Payments means the client receives the council funding directly and uses it to pay a care provider of their choice. The client pays us in the normal way, then submits records to the council. We're happy to help families through the Direct Payments application process, and our rates and admin are the same whether you're privately funded or on Direct Payments. You can read more in our guide to paying for care.
